WHERE IS IT?
It is seconds away from Hillhead Subways Station and located at the bottom of one of Glasgow's most famous cobbled streets, Ashton Lane.
THE BASICS
Ketchup specialise in gourmet burgers and their own special tomato ketchup (as the name gives away) It is very much a student friendly diner-style restaurant where you can grab a milkshake and a hearty burger.
THE POSITIVES
Ketchup have a huge range of different burgers ranging from plain cheeseburgers to more unusual and adventures burgers like chicken burgers in a bang-bang sauce, and - my favourite - they have a small selection of tasty veggie burgers.
For dieters, you can switch the bun for lettuce and there is a salad option if you don't fancy something too heavy - because the burgers are very much that.
The burgers at Ketchup are pretty much what you want from a burger: hearty and tasty. If you are hungover or you are starving, you want to get yourself down to Ashton Lane for a pick-me-up.
Ketchup also offer an amazing 241 student deal which means you can get two burgers for the price of one. This makes dining with your pals after class much more appealing because it won't be too pricey. However, this is only on burgers so if you are opting for sides and drinks, it can get a little more expensive.
The 50s diner style atmosphere makes it a really fun place to eat with friends and family alongside the staff who add to the fun, bubbly tone of Ketchup.
OUR FAVOURITE DISHES
Mexican Bean Burger (V) - if you love Mexican food like I do you will really enjoy this combination of beans, guacamole and chipotle mayo!
Just Fa Laughs (V) - unique and very tasty Greek spin on a veggie burger
Mac 'n' Cheese (V) - wow! Creamy, cheesy, carby. Amazing. We wished we could've had a big portion on its own instead of a burger once we tried this side.
Jalapeno Poppers with Sour Cream (V) - perfect combo of hotness from the peppers and coolness from the sour cream.
THE NEGATIVES
The meal was thoroughly enjoyable at the time and would've warranted a 4/5 rating, however, myself and my two co-diners were left feeling very ill after our visit to Ketchup. The food can be too heavy and greasy as it left the three of us lethargic and sick.
Also Ketchup recently changed their menu which included a change from homemade chunky chips, which were to die for, to skinny fries reminiscent of McDonalds or microchips which really took away from the gourmet element of the meal.
ONES TO AVOID
Fries - I would suggest skipping on the chips altogether and opting for a different side. Ours arrived lukewarm and left us very disappointed. BRING BACK THE CHUNKY CHIPS!
Homemade Nachos (V) - the cheese formed a thick, stodgy layer on top of the tortilla chips which made them almost impossible to eat.
OVERALL
Ketchup is a great place for students to go to get a cheap and filling burger! The only thing that brings Ketchup down is that stodgy, tired feeling the greasy burgers give you afterwards.
